How to Get to UW
Return to Math
Department Home Page
Location: The Math Department is located on the
2nd and 3rd floors of Ross
Hall ("RH"). The west campus of the University lies north of Ivinson
Ave (or, one block north of Grand Ave), east of 9th Street, and west of 15th
Street.
By car:
From the east and west: Take US Interstate
80 (I-80) to Laramie. The two
exits most convenient to the university are Exit 313 (Grand Ave) and Exit
311 (3rd St).
From the south (in particular, Colorado):
-
First method: Take US Interstate 25 (I-25) north to
Cheyenne, WY. From there take I-80 west to Laramie.
-
Second method: Take I-25 north, towards Ft. Collins,
CO. Exit I-25 onto Colorado 14 and head west to Ft. Collins. In
Ft. Collins, Colorado 14 intersects College Ave, which is
also US 287 North. Take US 287 North to Laramie. (The advantage
of this route is that
US 287 passes through very scenic country.)
WARNING: WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS: Because of Laramie's
altitude of 7,100 feet, either one or both of I-80 and US 287
may be cut off in wintertime, even as late as May. Both roads reach altitudes
higher than Laramie's en route (e.g., I-80 has its highest point
in the US a few miles east of town, at 8,640 ft). The advantage of I-80
is that it is an interstate, hence a divided highway, which is much safer
in the event of adverse driving conditions. The advantage of US 287
is that it is occasionally clear when I-80 is blocked; but because
it is not divided, there is a greater opportunity for severe auto accidents.
The phone number to get road conditions in the Laramie area is 1-888-WYO-ROAD.

By air:
Flying into Laramie: There is an airport in Laramie,
with service by United Airlines' commuter arm United Express, via their
Denver hub. (There is also such a regional airport in Cheyenne, WY, 50
minutes away by car.) Tickets to Laramie on United may be considerably
more expensive than a ticket to Denver. One advantage of flying only as
far as Denver is that Denver is a United hub, and hence many flights to
Denver (on United, anyway) are non-stop.
Flying into Denver: If you do fly only as far as
Denver, you can either rent a car or take an Airport Express shuttle. (We
have no business connection to Airport Express, and recommend it because
it is the only commercial land link from Denver Int'l Airport to Laramie.)
Driving by car from Denver Int'l Airport to Laramie
(total transit time is roughly 2:45): Find directions from the airport
to I-25 North. Then follow instructions above on reaching Laramie
by car from the south.
Shuttle service from the Denver Airport: Due to Laramie's
small population, shuttle service to and from the Denver
airport has been sporadic. Click
here for more information on shuttle service.
