Graduate Program

The department of mathematics offer masters of science degrees in mathematics as well ad PhD Degrees in both applied and pure mathematics in a broad range of research areas. Our program is flexible enough to meet students’ individual career goals, yet sufficiently structured to guarantee rigor and breadth. Personal attention and close contact with faculty are prominent qualities of our graduate program.

The Math Department employs approximately 20-25 graduate assistants each year. Graduate assistantships carry a full tuition and fee waiver, monthly living stipend and health insurance.  The academic year stipend for a Master’s student is $10,062 and $14,004 for Ph.D. students.  There are a variety of teaching and research opportunities in the summer that give valuable experience and supplementary pay.  Graduate assistants are typically required to teach one undergraduate, college level course per semester.  First year students normally teach College Algebra or Trigonometry.  Second and third-year students might teach Calculus or higher-level math courses.  Research assistantships are also usually available depending on a student’s area of interest.  These are awarded to advanced graduate students who are working with a dissertation advisor.

We invite you to explore your options as a graduate student and find out more about the Laramie community.  Laramie offers exceptional opportunities for summer and winter recreation as well as a clean, safe and friendly living environment.
