
ISC SGI Software
The ISC maintains and purchases software for
its members. The ISC is mainly supported through external funding. The
following is a list of software packages available on ISC's server, Everest.
C and C++
C is a compiler-based programming language. It
is the language in which most of the Unix operating system programs are written.
C++ is a dialect of C, enhanced for object-oriented programming. C++ specific
functions include encapsulation, in-line function calls, overloading operators,
and polymorphism.
gcc and g++
Gnu C and C++ compiler.
F77-F90
Fortran77 and Fortran90 programming languages,
named after the years in which the standards were finalized, are high-level,
compiler-based languages. Fortran is the primary language for development
of scientific and numerical software.
GIMP
The Gimp (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a
package for editing and enhancing images (similar to Photoshop). Color images
(including text) are produced using a toolkit and can be saved in different
file formats. Gimp has a flexible "plug-in" format allowing new
filters to be added.
Ghostscript/Ghostview (GV)
Ghostscript is an interpreter for the PostScript
page-description language. It allows on-screen viewing of PostScript and PDF
documents as well as translation of PostScript to a variety of graphic formats.
Ghostview is a user-friendly front-end to Ghostscript.
Ispell
Ispell is used to interactively check files for
incorrectly spelled words.
LaTex
teTeX is a group of programs used for typesetting
technical documents. The teTeX distribution includes TeX, LaTex, amsTeX, LamsTex,
xdvi, dvips and many other programs.
Maple
Maple is an interactive computer algebra and visualization
system.
Matlab
Matlab is an interactive computer algebra and visualization
system.
ML
ML is a graphical mail program. It supports IMAP
mail, mime multimedia extensions and automated filters.
Netscape
Netscape serves as ISC's Internet information browser.
It supports IMAP mail and mime multimedia.
PhaserPrint
The PhaserPrint software provides output management
for Tektronix color printers.
Poltmtv
A graphics visualization tool for scientific computation.
Pine
Pine is used to read/send/post email and USENET
news messages.
Note: ISC policy states that users should
not use ISC machines as mail collection points. If you would like to use pine
on these machines please set it up to gather your mail from asuwlink.uwyo.edu
or exchange.uwyo.edu via the IMAP protocol. If you need assistance in doing

SHOWCASE
SHOWCASE is the Silicon Graphics multimedia authoring
and presentation tool. It aids in completing effective, complex presentations
by allowing users to express ideas through text, two- and three-dimensional
drawing, hyper-scripting and imported files.
Ssh
Ssh is a secure shell which connects to other machines
using strong authentication and encryption to provide secure communications.
XV
XV is a program for displaying, manipulating and
converting graphic images in a large number of formats.
