Summer 2007 Institute

In 1989 the National Council Teachers of Mathematics  (NCTM) published the Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics. It listed fourteen areas in secondary school mathematics that need to be addressed. With this in mind, the University of Wyoming Summer Mathematics Institute for Wyoming high school teachers of mathematics was initiated in June of 1989.

Support for the UW Summer Mathematics Institute:

Initial support for the summer institute was provided by the Dwight D. Eisenhower Mathematics and Science Act. Several mathematical entities have contributed over the years including: Mid-continent Regional Educational Laboratory (McREL), the University of Wyoming colleges of Arts and Sciences and Education, Office of Academic Affairs, Rocky Mountain Section of the Mathematical Association of America, and the Wyoming Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The private sector also has played a major role in funding. Most notable are the Toyota Car Foundation, Kinder Morgan Energy, and ExxonMobil Corp.

In the fall of 2005, Siemens Building Technologies pledged to partner with the University of Wyoming to support the Summer Mathematics Institute in 2006, 2007, and 2008. The University and Wyoming mathematics teachers are grateful for this sustained commitment.
