The Institute for Scientific Computation (ISC) is part of the Mathematics Department at the University of Wyoming. The ISC is an interdisciplinary research center devoted to the application of computer technology in mathematics as well as other disciplines which may benefit from computer simulations.
The objectives of ISC are: 1) to provide support for campus research groups at UW in scientific computation, including numerical modeling of physical and engineering problems, numerical analylsis, and algorithm development; 2) to train undergraduate and graduate students in areas of applied mathematics and computing technology; 3) to help establish interdisciplinary research teams in applied sciences involving large-scale scientific computation; 4) to help in the use of scientific visualization tools for large-scale computational data; 5) to promote collaborative work with industry and various research teams in the world.
The ISC has state-of-the-art computing resources to facilitate faculty research. Researchers have direct access to a Beowulf Linux Cluster as well other unix-based computer equipment.
